Williamson Pk8 is a PK-8 school in Williamson, WV, serving 502 students in the Mingo County Schools district, and it has climbed to a 3-star rating (57th percentile) this year after a 2-star rating last year.

The school's standout strength is its work with students from low-income backgrounds—it now ranks in the top 16% of schools statewide for this group, a remarkable jump of 48 spots in a single year. Academically, Williamson shines brightest in early-grade math: 4th graders hit 67.7% proficiency, which is 18.5 points above the state average, and 5th graders also beat the state by 10 points. The school also posts a strong 7th grade ELA score (62.9% vs. 45.9% statewide). However, there are clear trouble spots. Performance drops sharply as students move up—8th grade math proficiency is just 23.1% compared to 53.3% in 3rd grade, and 8th grade science (23.1%) trails the state. On the positive side, Williamson spends less per student ($11,070) than all comparable schools yet still achieves middle-of-the-pack results, and it has historically served special education students well (77th percentile two years ago).
