Pelican Elementary is a PK–5 school serving 263 students in Rhinelander, Wisconsin, part of the Rhinelander School District. Fourth grade is Pelican's clearest strength. The same group of students posted much lower ELA (42.5%) and math (40%) proficiency as 3rd graders the year before, a notable one-year jump. Against same-district peers, Pelican's 4th grade beat Northwoods Community Elementary in ELA and science but trailed in math and social studies. It also topped Tomahawk Elementary in all four subjects, though it stayed well below Elcho Elementary, Three Lakes Elementary, and Sugar Camp Elementary, where 4th grade proficiency often ranged from the high 70s to the mid 90s.

Third and fifth grade are the relative weak spots. Pelican's 3rd grade ELA proficiency was 41.86%, below the district's 48.43% and the state's 52.08%, while 3rd grade math (46.51%) was below the state's 54.75%. Fifth grade ELA (44.12%) and math (41.18%) were near district rates but under state levels.
