Summary

Craig Montessori School is a public elementary school serving grades PK-8 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, with 257 students and a student-teacher ratio of around 20. The school is part of the Milwaukee School District, which is ranked 415 out of 426 districts in the state and has a 0-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Despite the school's Montessori approach, Craig Montessori consistently ranks in the bottom 10-15% of Wisconsin elementary schools based on the state's Forward Exam assessments. Its proficiency rates in English Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies are significantly lower than the Milwaukee School District and Wisconsin state averages across all grade levels. The school also struggles to serve its student subgroups effectively, ranking in the bottom 10-15% for female students, male students, African American students, special education students, and low socioeconomic status students compared to other Wisconsin elementary schools.

The challenges faced by Craig Montessori School are not unique, as nearby schools in the Milwaukee School District, such as Grantosa Drive Elementary, Emerson Elementary, and Lancaster Elementary, also struggle academically and have similar demographic and socioeconomic profiles. While the school spends significantly more per student ($14,512 in 2020-2021) compared to the state average, this funding and resources alone may not be the primary driver of the school's underperformance. Addressing the systemic issues within the district will require a comprehensive, multi-faceted approach that goes beyond simply increasing funding and resources.

Open Quote I don't recommend going to this school. the test scores are falling behind, the school can't afford educational learning sites such as IXL or khan academy. Many teachers quit every year and sometimes they don't give two craps about the bullying of the school. The principal is too "nice" about concerning the problems of our school. Over the years, the quantity of students are declining rapidly. I've been at the school ever since I was 3. And through the last ten years of quality I was around, I think it can break down any day now. Close Quote

Open Quote The school is a very good school in my opinion, because for one they learn how to solve problems correctly, the teacher knows what they are teaching, and the staff is excellent. Im not sure about every kid in the school's education but I know that the ones that I know of are above average and are ready for high school! Close Quote
