Emerson Elementary is a PK–5 school on the south side of La Crosse, Wisconsin, serving 317 students in the La Crosse School District — the second-largest enrollment among the comparable district elementaries reviewed here.

Emerson's standout feature is how far it outperforms its district. The school ranks in the 66th percentile statewide (3 stars), while the La Crosse School District sits at the 32nd percentile — a 34-point gap. It beats the district average in every subject and grade tested, by 6.9 to 20.6 points, and its 3rd-grade English language arts result (74% proficient) is nearly 22 points above the state average. Cross-grade averages place it second in math (59.9%) and fourth in ELA (61.3%) among district elementaries, behind schools like School of Technology and Arts I and Spence Elementary. It does this on the third-lowest per-student spending in the group ($15,886) and a 12.4 student-teacher ratio. Attendance is strong: 10.8% chronic absenteeism, well below the district's 19.6% and the state's 17.3%. Its overall profile is closer to Pertzsch Elementary in the higher-rated Onalaska School District than to most of its own district peers.
