Summary

Parkside Elementary is a PK–5 neighborhood school on the west side of Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, serving about 325 students as part of the Fond du Lac School District.

Parkside has ranked in the bottom quarter of Wisconsin elementary schools every year for the past decade, never rising above the 23rd percentile and landing at the 15th percentile in 2025–26. In 2025–26 it trailed its district and the state in all eight tested grade and subject combinations, with average gaps of roughly 21 points in English language arts and 28 points in math. It also ranks below all ten nearby schools, including Lakeshore Elementary (99th percentile) and Roberts Elementary (78th). Worth noting: nearby Chegwin Elementary (34th) and Evans Elementary (46th) show that comparable schools in this area can post higher results. Resources are not the obvious explanation either — Parkside spends $16,873 per pupil, among the highest in its peer group, and has the second-smallest classes (9.8 students per teacher) while still ranking at the bottom.

Two genuine strengths stand out. Chronic absenteeism is 13.7%, better than the district (18.2%) and state (17.3%) and better than several nearby schools with far less poverty — a strong improvement from 22.8% in 2021–22. English learners have also performed at or above the state midpoint, including a 72nd-percentile, four-star year in 2024–25. Parents should know that poverty is heavily concentrated here (79.4% free/reduced lunch, the highest in the comparison group, versus 16.1% at Lakeshore 2.7 miles away), and that after improvements in 2023–24, results slipped back in 2025–26 — ELA and math each fell about 9–10 points. Recent year-to-year swings should be read with some caution, since subgroup counts are small and state benchmarks shifted in 2023–24.
