Harvest Intermediate School is a large public school in DeForest, Wisconsin, serving 966 students in grades 4–6 as part of the De Forest Area School District, just north of Madison.

Parents will find a lot to like here. Chronic absenteeism was 6.8% in 2024–2025 — well below the district rate of 9.3% and the state rate of 17.3% — and it has improved from 10.3% in 2021–2022. That is the lowest rate among all nearby middle schools, including De Forest Middle (12.2%), Waunakee Intermediate (14.8%), Patrick Marsh Middle (17.3%) and Prairie View Middle (18.2%). Academically, Harvest is above the Wisconsin average in every tested subject and grade. In 2025–2026, 4th graders were 60.06% proficient in ELA, 60.66% in math, 69.37% in social studies and 62.16% in science; 5th graders were 62.71% in ELA and 67.46% in math; 6th graders were 65.84% in ELA and 68.22% in math, compared with state rates of 54.95% and 53.6%.

The comparisons are striking. Harvest's 6th grade ELA rate far outpaces Whitehorse Middle (28.47%), Sherman Middle (40.29%), Black Hawk Middle (30.51%), O'Keeffe Middle (53.28%), Central Heights Middle (54.82%) and Prairie View Middle (57.92%). At the same time, Harvest spends less per student ($14,832) than every nearby school and has the highest student-teacher ratio (13.3) in the group. Only Waunakee posts noticeably higher proficiency, and it serves fewer low-income students while spending more. One thing to watch: absenteeism rises to 12.2% at De Forest Middle after grade 6. No dropout rate or school rank history was available for Harvest.
