Mequon-Thiensville School District

The Mequon-Thiensville School District serves about 3,553 students across six schools in a suburban area north of Milwaukee: three elementary schools (Wilson, Donges Bay, and Oriole Lane, PK–5), two middle schools (Steffen and Lake Shore, 6–8), and one high school (Homestead, 9–12). The district is ranked 13th of 432 Wisconsin districts — the 97th percentile — and every one of its six schools holds a 5-star rating.

Every school scores far above its comparable state average, and 2025–2026 results improved at all six. Oriole Lane Elementary posts the strongest elementary results, with a simple average proficiency of 83.8% against a comparable state average of 54.7%, and ranks 25th of 1,039 elementary schools, up sharply from 92nd the prior year. Lake Shore Middle is the district's top-ranked school at 15th of 643 middle schools, with the lowest student-teacher ratio (12.3) and highest per-student spending ($18,349). Donges Bay Elementary (36th of 1,039) has the lowest free/reduced lunch rate (7.05%) and the lowest spending ($14,475) yet still performs very well. Steffen Middle ranks 27th of 643, and Wilson Elementary ranks 61st of 1,039 with the district's lowest chronic absenteeism, at 2.4%.

At Homestead High — the largest school, with 1,204 students — the graduation rate is 98.4% versus the state's 92.0%, and the dropout rate is 0.0%. Its student-teacher ratio (16.5) and chronic absenteeism (8.2%) are the highest in the district, though still less than half the state absenteeism rate of 17.3%. Districtwide, chronic absenteeism is 5.4% against the state's 17.3%. Notably, results here do not track simply with poverty or spending: the elementary with the highest free/reduced lunch rate earns the strongest scores, while the lowest-spending school also performs at a very high level.
