Summary:

The Laona School District in Wisconsin serves about 291 students across two schools: Laona High, which covers grades 6–12 with 146 students, and Robinson Elementary, which covers grades PK–5 with 145 students. Because the high school begins at grade 6, the middle-school grades are housed there. The district overall ranks 221 of 432, at the 49th percentile with 2 stars — but that middle-of-the-pack rating hides two schools heading in very different directions.

Laona High is the academically mixed school. Its rank has slipped from the 89th percentile in 2023–24 to the 52nd percentile in 2025–26, yet middle-grade math remains a genuine strength: grades 6, 7, and 8 math proficiency all exceeded state in 2025–26, at 66.67%, 87.50%, and 68.97%. The school also recorded a 0.0% dropout rate, 9.0% chronic absenteeism (far below the district's 12.2% and the state's 17.3%), and above-state results in 8th science, 10th social studies, ACT ELA, and ACT science. The biggest concern is 10th-grade ACT math, which dropped from 50% to 21.74% while the state stood at 42.93%; its 87.5% graduation rate is also below the state's 92.0%.

Robinson Elementary is the improving school, rising from 1 star and the 19th percentile in 2023–24 to 2 stars and the 44th percentile in 2025–26. Fourth grade is its bright spot, with social studies at 85.71%, science at 71.43%, and math at 61.90% — each above state and up sharply from the prior year. Gaps remain: ELA was below state in grades 3, 4, and 5, and math was below state in grades 3 and 5. Its chronic absenteeism of 16.0% is better than the state but higher than the district and much higher than the high school. The elementary also serves a higher free/reduced-lunch share (45.52% vs. 36.99%) on lower per-student spending ($15,751 vs. $17,633). Small cohorts mean year-to-year swings should be read cautiously.
