There are two elementary schools in the Hayward Community School District in Wisconsin: Hayward Primary, which serves PK–2 and enrolls 403 students, and Hayward Intermediate, which serves grades 3–5 and enrolls 327 students, for 730 students combined. The district is rated 249th of 432 districts in Wisconsin, at the 42nd percentile with 2 stars, and Hayward Primary is the larger school by 76 students, or about 23% more.
Hayward Intermediate is the academic standout. In 2024–2025 it earned 4 stars, ranked 298th of 1,044 schools (71st percentile), and was above the state average in all eight tested Forward Exam grade/subject areas; its top result was 4th-grade Social Studies at 77.48% proficient, 13.83 points above the state at 63.65%, while 5th-grade Math was 68.57% and 4th-grade Math was 65.77%. However, 2025–2026 brought a significant drop to 3 stars, 449th of 1,039 (57th percentile), with every tested area declining; the largest drops were 4th-grade Social Studies (77.48% to 65.35%, −12.13 points) and 4th-grade Math (65.77% to 54.46%, −11.31 points).
