Open Quote No grade school is perfect, nor is it entirely bad. Most have pluses and minuses. The key is to find a school for your child strong in areas that matter to you and with core values that resonate with your own. There are many independent schools in the Seattle area where a child can get an excellent education. Focus instead on whether the culture and atmosphere at a particular school are the ones you want determining your child’s moral growth and development.

To that end, parents considering UCDS should read carefully the following releases from the United States Department of Justice and the Washington State Department of Early Learning regarding investigations conducted during the 2013-14 school year. Both investigations detail a concerning disregard for equity and justice by the current administrative leadership at UCDS. The behavior described is discordant with the school’s self-described values and with those of its accrediting organizations, the NWAIS and the NAIS.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
