Summary

Geiger Montessori School is a public elementary school (PK-5) serving 521 students in the Tacoma School District, known for its student-led Montessori approach and a remarkable decade-long journey of academic improvement, now ranking in the top third of all Washington state schools.

Academically, Geiger consistently outperforms both its district and the state, with particular strength in 4th-grade English and math and excellent 5th-grade science scores. The school serves a socioeconomically diverse community and achieves these strong results despite having the highest student-teacher ratio among comparable local schools. When looking at nearby schools, Geiger performs significantly better than Delong Elementary School (which has a similar student population) and holds its own against others like Downing Elementary School, all while managing a larger enrollment.

While Geiger is a standout within the Tacoma School District, comparisons show it trails some higher-performing schools in the area like Washington Elementary School and those in the neighboring University Place School District, such as University Place Primary. The school's story is one of effective and efficient growth, demonstrating that its Montessori model delivers quality education that exceeds expectations for its resources and serves its community well.

Open Quote I wish I could start all over and never subject my child to this horrible school environment. I have never seen so much bullying in my entire life. Bullying is a regular activity at this school. I thought there was suppose to be zero tolerance for bullying, however it seems that bullying is accepted to the point that they might as well praise it. It breaks my heart to see the kind of treatment that is accepted in this school. I was so excited for my child to go to this school, however it is nothing of what I expected. There is a high number of bullying incidences daily. However, the school will usually turn a blind eye at the situations. Also, I feel that there are certain clicks among the adults that are bullies to other parents, but excuse themselves and act like they are superior if you do not fit into their mold. These particular adults are close with the Principal. My child's self esteem is lowered everyday, because of the experiences at this school. Most days my child is scared to go to school, because of the constant stress of mistreatment in this environment. This Principal is the worst that I have every seen. This man does very well at pretending to care, however only truly cares if it fits his agenda. You may be fooled at first by his smile and and calmness. However, the more you get to know him, he says smart remarks, talks down at people who disagree with him, and intentionally will try to antagonize people while doing it in a calm condescending manner. There are some wonderful teachers at this school, however my child has a teacher who is rude and confrontational. If I could give advice about this school, it would to RUN!! (unless you are one of the kind of people that loves clicks and you act like you are better than everyone else, in that case then this is the school for you!) Close Quote
