Oak Harbor High School is a public school serving grades 9–12 in the Oak Harbor community of northwest Washington, with 1,562 students and a relatively large, diverse enrollment that includes many military-connected families. The school operates in the Oak Harbor School District, which ranks 50th out of 238 Washington districts, placing it in the 79th percentile statewide. The school ranks 130th out of 396 high schools, in the 67th percentile, an improvement from 177th the previous year and 188th two years earlier.

Oak Harbor’s clearest strengths are graduation, persistence, and English Language Arts. Its 2024–2025 graduation rate was 93.0%, well above the state rate of 82.6%, while its 3.7% dropout rate was far below the state’s 9.8%. In 2025–2026, 70.55% of students were proficient in ELA, compared with 52.81% statewide and 58.14% in the district. That result was below Anacortes High School and Coupeville High School, but above La Conner High School. Oak Harbor’s size also matters when comparing results with smaller schools such as Port Townsend High School.

Mathematics is the school’s main academic challenge: 32.57% of students were proficient in 2025–2026, below both the district’s 44.04% and the state’s 43.11%. This school is all over the map, they have alot of excellent programs BUT the nonteaching staff makes the administration of rules and codes listed in the student handbook a last priority. Discipline is arbitrary and fairly draconian. Advisory classes are pretty pointless (our advisory instructor didn't know who our child was after having her for 3 years), this school focuses on your child if they are an achiever and ignores them if they have any academic issues at all, homeschooling is the better option here. This is a terrific school! The building is brand new and looks great! Plus, they offer a long list of AP classes, national-award-winning CTE classes, excellent music programs (the choir is especially good), and highly ranked sports teams. My son is a student at OHHS and loves it!! Close Quote
