Summary

Covington Elementary School is a public Pre-K through 5th grade school serving 456 students in the Kent School District, positioned as a solid, mid-performing school with particular strengths in mathematics.

Academically, the school's math proficiency is a standout, significantly exceeding both district and state averages, especially in the early grades. Its performance in English Language Arts is on par with the district, while science scores are slightly above. A key strength is the school's effectiveness in supporting specific student groups; it ranks notably high for students from low socioeconomic backgrounds and English Language Learners, indicating targeted support systems are in place. The school has shown a positive upward trend in its statewide ranking over the past several years.

When compared to nearby schools, Covington presents an interesting profile. It spends more per student than many peers, including higher-performing schools like Sunrise Elementary School, and maintains a lower student-teacher ratio. While it doesn't rank as high overall as Crestwood Elementary School or Martin Sortun Elementary School, it consistently outperforms other schools in the area with similar student demographics, such as George T. Daniel Elementary School and Millennium Elementary School, particularly in math.

Open Quote My kids are attending Covington Elementary for few years now and school seems to be getting better until this school year.
Under the new readership, school has dramatically changed. There were always few disruptive kids each classes, but this year, one of my kid's class was out of control. The certain kids were always fighting or cussing and destructs the class. Few time through the school year, other students had to move to other classes because fighting got so bad. Those problem were always started by the same students, yet school won't remove from the class or won't even move to other class.

I guess KSD has a policy that "everyone gets the same education". Because if disrupted kids were removed from classroom they lose opportunity to learn. So kids who wants to learn need deal with them. That's what KSD office told us. Close Quote
