Kalama Elementary School in Kalama, Washington, serves 525 students in kindergarten through fifth grade and is part of the Kalama School District, a smaller community district in southwest Washington. The school ranks in the 41st percentile statewide, placing it 670th among Washington elementary schools and earning two stars. Its results are mixed but generally stronger than those of nearby Longview and Kelso schools. Kalama’s science performance is a clear strength: 64.94% of students met standards, compared with 50.95% statewide. Math proficiency was 40.55%, above the district’s 32.89% but slightly below the state’s 43.11%. ELA proficiency was 45.67%, just above the district but below the statewide result of 52.81%.

Compared with nearby schools, Kalama falls in the middle of the group overall. It trails North Fork Elementary School, Rose Valley Elementary, Carrolls Elementary, and several others in ELA or math, but it outperforms Wallace Elementary and most Longview-area comparison schools. Its science result was the highest among nearby schools with available current results, exceeding Butler Acres Elementary and Northlake Elementary School by a wide margin. Grade-level results reveal important differences within the school. Fifth grade is a bright spot: ELA performance exceeded the statewide fifth-grade result, science was substantially above the state, and math was nearly comparable. Families may therefore want to ask how the school is addressing fourth-grade math, grades 3–4 ELA, and special education support while building on its strong science instruction.
