Summary

Centennial Elementary is a public K-5 school serving about 540 students in Graham, WA, within the Bethel School District, and it stands out for its strong academic support for students facing economic challenges, with proficiency rates in math and science currently above the state average.

When compared to nearby schools with similar levels of student need, Centennial performs notably better. For instance, while Shining Mountain Elementary and Frederickson Elementary have lower statewide rankings, Centennial maintains a mid-level ranking, suggesting its programs are particularly effective in this context. The school's performance shows a unique pattern across grades, with a dip in 4th-grade English scores that recovers by 5th grade, which is different from trends at other local schools like Nelson Elementary or Pioneer Valley Elementary.

Centennial spends more per student than some higher-performing schools in the area, but its ability to achieve these results with a high-need population indicates a focused use of resources. Key areas for the community to watch include supporting consistent achievement across all grade levels and for all student groups, as the school works to build on its relative strengths in science and its successful support for many of its students.

Open Quote This school doesn't care about kids at all! When someone besides a parent was picking my child up from school, they didn't even have any staff outside to check the proper person was picking up my child and when I informed the principal she just said, "There's just so many kids." WOW, could she care less? One kid getting kidnapped by being picked up by the wrong person because no staff cared to check an ID is too many! I also had numerous problems with a first grade teacher and the principal who refused to teach my child at her level because she was actually ahead, instead of far, far behind like the majority of the students there. They actually lied to my face and told me they had her tested to skip a grade but said that she didn't pass the test. But the district office said no such testing was ever done. Another teacher within the district later evaluated my first grader as reading at a 4th grade level and told me she would have done just fine skipping a grade. When I finally disenrolled my child from this school to do an online homeschooling program through the district office, the school told me I couldn't pack up my daughter's own desk while the teacher was in the classroom and the other students were at lunch, threatened to call police when I proceeded to do so anyways, and screamed at me (and my 7 year old, 4 year old, and 1 year old children) until we left the school with only part of her belongings. This is truly a terrible, terrible school! Close Quote
