Rooted School Washington

Rooted School Washington is the only school in the Rooted School Washington district, serving grades 9–12 in Vancouver, Washington. It is a small high school with 58 students, a 9.6-to-1 student-teacher ratio, and 58.62% of students eligible for free or reduced-price lunch. Because there is only one school in the district, there are no meaningful school-to-school comparisons within the area; statewide results and the school’s own progress provide the best context.

The most encouraging news is the school’s recent improvement. Its ranking rose from the 18th percentile in 2024–2025 to the 56th percentile in 2025–2026, and its SchoolDigger rating increased from one star to three stars. Math proficiency more than doubled, increasing from 15.38% to 36.36%. Although the latest overall math result remained below Washington’s 43.11% rate, 10th-grade math proficiency was slightly above the statewide rate for that grade, 36.36% compared with 35.42%. These results suggest meaningful progress, though the school’s small enrollment means that the performance of a few students can significantly affect yearly percentages.

Science remains an area where the Rooted School Washington could improve. Its 2025–2026 science proficiency rate was 43.48%, below the statewide rate of 50.95%, while 11th-grade science was 43.48% compared with 48.78% statewide. Current English Language Arts results are suppressed, so it is not possible to determine whether performance improved or declined from the prior year’s 46.15% proficiency rate. The school’s low student-teacher ratio and high per-student spending indicate substantial resources, but families may want to ask how those resources support continued math growth, stronger science outcomes, and improved visibility into ELA performance.
