Stevenson-Carson School District

Stevenson-Carson School District serves approximately 747 students across three schools covering kindergarten through 12th grade in the Stevenson-Carson area: Carson Elementary School for grades K–6, Wind River Middle School for grades 7–8, and Stevenson High School for grades 9–12. The schools have relatively similar enrollment sizes, although Carson Elementary is the largest. Overall, the district ranks near the middle of Washington districts, but performance varies considerably by school.

Stevenson High School is the district’s clear standout. It ranks in the 81st percentile statewide and reports especially strong ELA performance, with 76.47% of students proficient compared with 52.81% statewide. Its science proficiency is also above the state rate, while math is close to the state average. The school’s 85.5% graduation rate is higher than the state rate, and its dropout rate is slightly lower. In contrast, Carson Elementary School ranks lower overall, though science is its strongest subject and sixth-grade math is a relative bright spot. Carson’s sixth-grade math proficiency, at 38.89%, is close to the statewide result.

Wind River Middle School is the main area of concern. Its ranking has fallen over the past three years, and proficiency declined in ELA, math, and science compared with the prior year. Seventh graders outperform eighth graders in both ELA and math, with the largest gap in ELA, suggesting that the transition into eighth grade deserves attention. Math is the broadest district-wide challenge because all three schools are below the state math rate. Families may therefore want to consider the high school’s strong academic and graduation outcomes alongside the need for stronger middle-school support and consistent math improvement across grade levels.
