Ocosta School District

Ocosta School District serves approximately 593 students in the Westport area through two schools covering prekindergarten through 12th grade: Ocosta Elementary School for PK–6 and Ocosta Junior - Senior High for grades 7–12. The schools share the same address and make up the district’s complete public school system, with no separately listed middle school.

Ocosta Junior - Senior High is the stronger of the two schools in statewide rankings, placing in the 36th percentile with a two-star rating, compared with the elementary school’s 19th percentile and one star. Its most encouraging results are in English language arts (ELA), where 45.38% of students are proficient, and in graduation, with an 89% graduation rate—above the state rate of 82.6%. Tenth-grade ELA is a particular strength: 63.16% of students are proficient, nearly matching the state result. However, mathematics is a significant concern, with only 16.41% proficiency overall and 10.81% in 10th grade. Parents should also note that the high school’s ELA, math, and science results all declined in the most recent year.

Ocosta Elementary School has stronger mathematics results than the high school overall, at 29.67% proficiency, led by 3rd grade at 44%. Still, elementary achievement remains below state averages, particularly in ELA, where 29.12% are proficient and no reported grade exceeds 35%. Science is the elementary school’s closest subject to the state average, with 40% proficiency. The elementary school’s statewide ranking has gradually improved over three years, rising from the 14th to the 19th percentile. Both schools are small and serve many students from economically challenged households, so families may want to ask about tutoring, math intervention, literacy support, attendance services, and the transition from 6th to 7th grade. Overall, graduation and secondary ELA are district strengths, while math across the PK–12 system is the clearest improvement priority.
