Open Quote I'm sure this is a nice school for most, but from my experience, the new principal can be sarcastic and very controlling. She seem to have good attentions and maybe she is on the edge because this is her first year at Fishburn Elementary as a principal but she lacks the experience in special education. I hope she learns to be mindful and respectful to others when their opinion is different then hers. Close Quote

Open Quote Absolutely amazing school! Teachers are kind and caring and involved. The programs are great and everyone there is always smiling and full of life. It's obvious they love the kids and the school and it shows! Our son is growing and excelling and happy. Mr. Lin is a wonderful addition to an already fantastic school. Thanks Fishburn! Close Quote

Open Quote I read an above comment and felt I needed to reply. I am the parent of 2 racially mixed children who attend Fishburn Park. I feel that the comments left by the obviously racist parent above are 100 not reflective the schools atmosphere or direction. Everybody wants their child to attend a well rounded and educational motivated school and I welcome the diversity that Fishburn allows and protects. If you do not want your children to attend a school where diversity is welcome, then by all means enroll them in a private school of your choice and tell them that Betsy DeVos sent you. I am highly offended that anybody anywhere would think that Fishburn is anything but a fantastic educational institution that I proudly send my children to every morning. The staff is wonderful and the principal is of the utmost high standards when education is concerned. Come out from the 50's and embrace the change we live in a multicultural society.....bottom line. Open Quote In regards to the previous ratings comment. My son attended Fishburn Park years ago. Not only did he receive a quality education regarding our eco-systems and the interaction between man and our environment but he was enriched by the diversity of his peers at Fishburn Park. I'm happy to say that my child was innoculated against the sort of soft racist attitude that you seem so willing to share. Believe it or not, we live in a city and state that has all sorts of brown people. I think it is amazing that my child had the opportunity to receive an education in a diverse community more representative of our larger world and society, rather than keeping him in an insular and exclusionary environment. I find your way of thinking to be abhorrent, personally and you must recognize it yourself as you disavowed being a Grand Wizard of the KKK. You know what? Another great asset of the culture at Fishburn Park Elementary, is that there are students with disabilities. I think that exposure to children with disabilities is an amazing opportunity to develop sensitivity to people with all kinds of differences. I'm also proud that my son learned subject-verb agreement and punctuation while a student at Fishburn Park. I hope your child learns this even if they don't learn to be a non-biased member of our collective society. Close Quote

Open Quote Not a bad school. Seems to have good programs and good intentions, however, I do not agree with the entire "magnet school" agenda. Diversity seems to have become this schools main focus. In the last few years I have noticed the white flight phenomenon taking place. The demographics of this school has changed in the years that my child has been there. We moved from a part of town that had a not so desirable school system to get our child into a better school and at first it was just what we were looking for. However, we have seen several parents pull their "white" kids from this school because of it being a magnet school and it seems every white child pulled is replaced with a black child from a different "not so desirable" district. Most of the classrooms in this years yearbook was at least 50 percent black. This does not represent the community that surrounds this school. Now, before you think that I am the Grand Wizard of the KKK let me ask you this. If demographics of a school are not important, why do they list it on most websites that rate schools? My child will not be at Fishburn next year. White flight. Close Quote
