Patrick County High in Stuart, Virginia, is a public high school serving 795 students in grades 8–12 within the Patrick County Public Schools district, and it has become one of the top-performing high schools in the state despite serving a largely rural, economically diverse community. The school holds a 5-star rating and ranks 23rd out of 331 Virginia high schools for 2025–26, a climb from the 50th percentile a decade ago. With roughly 79% of students qualifying for free or reduced lunch, it posts results that look more like an affluent school: a 96.2% graduation rate, a 1.8% dropout rate, and strong passing rates across nearly every subject on state tests.

Compared with two nearby schools—Floyd County High and Bassett High—Patrick County High stands out in nearly every headline metric. Its graduation rate is well above Bassett's 81.9%, its dropout rate is roughly one-seventh of Bassett's, and its chronic absenteeism rate of 13.0% is the lowest among the three. On 2025–26 SOL tests, Patrick leads both neighbors in most subjects, including 11th-grade reading (92.6% proficient vs. 82.7% at Floyd and 82.6% at Bassett), Biology (87.3% vs. 81.6% at Floyd and 25.0% at Bassett), and Algebra I (95.1% vs. 88.5% and 84.7%). Floyd edges it out in a couple of areas (10th-grade writing and geometry), but Patrick is the most consistent.

The school's success is especially pronounced for student groups that often face extra obstacles.
