Lawson-Marriott Elementary is a small, rural PK-6 school in Saint Stephens Church, Virginia, serving 178 students in the King and Queen County Public Schools district. Nearly all of its students come from economically disadvantaged households, with free/reduced-price lunch eligibility consistently above 95% in recent years. The school's statewide ranking has trended downward since 2018-2019, when it sat in the 57th percentile, to its current position in the 15th percentile with a 1-star rating. While the school experienced a particularly difficult year in 2023-2024, it has shown some recovery since then.

Despite these challenges, Lawson-Marriott has some genuine bright spots.
