Summary

Aldrin Elementary is a PK–6 school in Reston, Virginia, serving 455 students as part of Fairfax County Public Schools, and it has climbed to an 83rd-percentile statewide ranking — 193rd out of 1,111 Virginia elementary schools — earning a 4-star rating for the 2025–2026 school year. That's Aldrin's best rank in a decade, up from the 53rd percentile in 2016–2017 and a notable jump from 72nd percentile last year. Among nearby schools, only Great Falls Elementary, Forestville Elementary, and Sunrise Valley Elementary rank higher — and all three serve far fewer low-income students than Aldrin.

Aldrin's biggest academic strength is reading. Proficiency rates topped district averages in every grade tested, with 6th grade reading at 91.84% proficient compared with the district's 80.36%. The school also invests heavily in its students: per-student spending reached $17,721 in 2023–2024 — more than what nearby high performers like Forestville Elementary ($10,971), Sunrise Valley Elementary ($12,241), and Great Falls Elementary ($12,650) spend, and nearly as much as Armstrong Elementary's $18,590, despite Aldrin ranking higher. The student–teacher ratio of 10.8 is among the area's lowest. Attendance is another standout: chronic absenteeism dropped from 15.4% two years ago to just 7.8%, matching Great Falls Elementary and far below the state average of 14.8%. Aldrin also posts strong results for English Language Learners (85th percentile), low-income students (76th percentile), and students with disabilities (77th percentile).

The one clear weak spot is 6th grade math, where proficiency fell to 61.29% — below both the district (69.31%) and state (63.19%) averages, and about 34 points behind Great Falls Elementary. In the earlier grades, Aldrin's math scores are solid, making 6th grade math the only subject where the school trails its peers. Given that this is the final year before middle school, it's the area to watch. Overall, Aldrin is a well-resourced, high-performing school that gets strong results from a more economically diverse student body than most of its top-ranked neighbors — and if it can replicate its reading success in upper-grade math, it could climb even higher.

Open Quote Aldrin Elementary is a wonderful school with excellent administration and a family feel. The office staff knows every child. There are so many wonderful teachers, extremely high parent involvement, and an amazing PTA. The only criticism is that it is highly segregated and the school is not transparent about how children are placed in classrooms. They seek to maximize their limited specialists (special ed, ESOL, etc.) by concentrating kids together and isolating the advanced kids. These kids could be better integrated in order to provide a better experience for ALL students. Close Quote
