North Sevier High

North Sevier High is a small public school in Salina, a central Utah community, serving about 270 students in grades 9–12 as part of Sevier District. The school ranks 45th out of 139 Utah high schools, placing it around the 68th percentile, and has earned a three-star rating. This represents major long-term progress: it ranked near the bottom of the state in 2018–19 but has remained in the upper half in every reported year since 2020–21. Its current position is stronger than Richfield High, ranked 60th, and Gunnison Valley High, ranked 78th.

Graduation and persistence through school are major strengths. In 2024–25, 93.9% of students graduated, compared with 92.3% across Sevier District and 89.8% statewide. The dropout rate was 6.1%, below both the district and state rates and slightly better than Richfield High. Academic results are generally competitive: ninth-grade English and math exceeded state results, and tenth-grade science was especially strong, with 53.0% of students proficient compared with 39.3% statewide. Ninth-grade math also compared favorably with both nearby schools. The school’s 15.7-to-1 student-teacher ratio is lower than Richfield High’s 20.9-to-1 ratio.

The biggest concern is attendance. Chronic absenteeism reached 37.1% in 2024–25, higher than the district’s 34.3%, the state’s 23.8%, and Richfield High’s 27.2%; Gunnison Valley High reported just 10.2%. English performance, particularly in tenth grade, has also varied from year to year, while ninth-grade science remains slightly below the state. Overall, the school combines strong completion outcomes, improving statewide standing, and notable strengths in math and tenth-grade science. Reducing chronic absenteeism and improving consistency in English and science would be the clearest opportunities for continued progress.
