Summary

Elk Run Elementary is a public school in Magna, Utah, serving approximately 714 students in prekindergarten through sixth grade as part of the Granite District. The relatively large school serves a community where attendance and academic support are important considerations for families. In 2025–2026, Elk Run ranked 537th of 563 Utah schools, placing it in the 5th percentile with zero stars. That is an improvement from the 2nd percentile the previous year, but the school remains among Utah’s lowest-ranked schools.

Academic results are below both district and state averages in every reported grade and subject. Average proficiency was approximately 18.0% in English language arts, 19.9% in mathematics, and 27.9% in science. Fifth-grade mathematics is the clearest concern, with 14.4% of students proficient. Attendance is a major issue. Chronic absenteeism was 40.7% in 2024–2025, compared with 30.6% in the district and 23.8% statewide, and it has remained above 40% for three consecutive years. Elk Run’s student-teacher ratio was also relatively high at 23.9:1. The nearby Wallace Stegner Academy West Valley offers a notable contrast, ranking in the 52nd percentile, reporting substantially higher academic proficiency, and having 15.8% chronic absenteeism. Elk Run’s most encouraging signals are its improved English-learner subgroup ranking and comparatively stronger science results, which could provide useful starting points for continued improvement.
