Westfield School

Summary:

Westfield School is an elementary school located in Alpine, Utah, serving grades PK-6 with a total enrollment of 642 students. The school is part of the Alpine School District, which is ranked 29 out of 100 districts in Utah and has a 4-star rating from SchoolDigger. Westfield School has consistently been ranked among the top elementary schools in the state, with a 5-star rating from SchoolDigger for most of the past decade.

Westfield School consistently outperforms the Alpine District and the state of Utah in standardized test scores across all grade levels and subject areas. For example, in the 2022-2023 school year, Westfield School had significantly higher proficiency rates in RISE/English Language Arts, RISE/Mathematics, and RISE/Science compared to the district and state averages. Additionally, Westfield School has a relatively homogeneous student population, with a majority (over 88%) of students identifying as White, which is higher than the racial diversity seen in some nearby schools, such as Belmont School and Eaglecrest School. The school also has a low percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch, ranging from 4.67% to 6.54% over the past three school years, which is significantly lower than the rates observed in some nearby schools.

Westfield School's consistent high performance, low student-teacher ratio, and relatively homogeneous student population suggest that the school is providing a high-quality education and effectively supporting student learning. While the school's demographics and socioeconomic factors may contribute to its success, the nearby schools in the Alpine area, such as Cedar Ridge School and Legacy School, also demonstrate strong academic performance and are ranked highly within the state, indicating that the region as a whole is home to a number of excellent elementary schools.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote Westfield is a great school! There are lots of additional activities put on by volunteers and parents. The teachers and administration are caring and involved. I have enjoyed it more than any other school my children have attended. They are aware of my students and their individual needs, and they communicate well to help me as a parent! I am grateful for the support. Close Quote

Open Quote My family has been at Westfield for seven years and we love it! The teachers are phenomenal and really care about the students. I have yet to experience a teacher we don't like. Principal Thomas runs a great school and is always willing to listen to and help parents. The parents in this community are amazing too. There is so much support for PTA programs and in-class volunteers. I really appreciate that Westfield offers the ALL Program for advanced students, as well as daily extra help for students who need it. Westfield values achievement and boasts high test scores, but doesn't neglect character and complete development of students as good human beings. It is a happy place and I feel lucky my kids get to attend here. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
