Summary

P M Akin Elementary is a highly-rated PK-4 school in Wylie, TX, serving 583 students as part of the top-tier Wylie Independent School District (Isd). While Akin consistently earns a 5-star rating and outperforms state averages in reading and math, it sits in a competitive neighborhood of elite schools. For example, nearby Don Whitt Elementary and Wally Watkins Elementary rank among the top 70 schools in Texas, placing Akin in the middle of the pack locally despite being in the 92nd percentile statewide. This context matters: Akin is an excellent school by state standards, but parents comparing options within the district will find several peers with even higher rankings.

One notable pattern at Akin is a dip in 4th-grade reading proficiency. In two of the last three years, 4th-grade reading scores have been lower than the previous year's 3rd-grade scores—an unusual trend not seen at top-performing neighbors like Don Whitt or Rita Smith Elementary. Additionally, the school shows inconsistent support for English Language Learners (ELL), with rankings swinging from the 99th percentile to the 56th percentile in just one year. This volatility suggests that Akin's programs for certain student groups may be cohort-dependent rather than consistently stable.

On a positive note, Akin demonstrates exceptional effectiveness with specific student groups, ranking in the 95th percentile for African American students and the 96th percentile for Hispanic students. However, its performance with White and Multi-racial students is notably lower, ranking in the 75th and 49th percentiles respectively. Interestingly, Akin's per-student spending ($12,259) is higher than some higher-performing peers like Wally Watkins ($10,494), indicating that resource allocation alone doesn't explain performance differences. For parents, Akin offers a strong, well-funded education with particular strengths in supporting diverse learners, though it may not provide the same level of challenge for all student groups as some nearby schools.

Open Quote My Kid's 2nd grade teacher turned out to be racist and bully . She bullied my kid for whole school year by not letting her pee and my poor kid stayed in pain for so long. She and their teacher in training made fun of our religion and Gods in front of almost 40 students where she was the only Hindu and embarrased my daughter. The teacher in training even laughed at a school bully calling her annoying in front of the whole class. My kid stayed inside the bathroom and cried for one full hour as she felt distressed after the incident and nobody even checked on her. On top of that her homeroom teacher wrongfully blamed my daughter for lying instead of punishing the bullies and punished her instead in front of her peers and teachers. All her teacher ever replied to me questioning about these things is that- my daughter is not following the protocol or she is distracted, well rightly so as she was never told any protocol and she is distracted because of constant bullying going around. She was being bullied everyday by 2 girls , I complained zillion times, nothing happened. I never realised that teacher herself is doing the same. They were even given awards in school ceremonies and from Mayor's office while my daughter being one of the brightest in the class was never awarded academically. the administration is trying to help but little can be done to fix my child who is emotionally and pschologically hurt by bullying not only by two 8 year olds but by her own home room teacher.
