Summary

Ikard Elementary is a public school in Weatherford, TX, serving 572 students in grades PK-5 within the Weatherford Independent School District (Isd), a district that ranks in the middle of the pack statewide. The school has recently shown a positive upward trend, climbing from a low point in 2019 to its current rank in the 46th percentile, and it serves a community where over 70% of students qualify for free or reduced lunch—a rate significantly higher than many nearby schools.

Ikard’s most notable strength is its emerging ability to support its most vulnerable students. The school has seen dramatic improvements in serving special education students, jumping to the 73rd percentile, and low-income students, now ranking in the 62nd percentile. However, the school faces significant challenges with its English Language Learner (ELL) population, ranking in the 7th percentile, and with math instruction, where only 34.57% of 5th graders were proficient compared to 47.38% statewide. Interestingly, Ikard’s Spanish-language STAAR scores are often higher than the district average, suggesting strong bilingual instruction even as the school works to transition students to English proficiency.

Compared to its affluent neighbors in the Aledo Independent School District (Isd), the performance gap is immense—for example, in 5th grade reading, only 56.1% of Ikard students were proficient versus 87.91% at Coder Elementary. Even within its own district, Ikard is outperformed by schools like Martin Elementary (82nd percentile) and Austin Elementary (77th percentile), while aligning more closely with Curtis Elementary (47th percentile) and Seguin Elementary (46th percentile). Ikard is not a top performer compared to its neighbors, but its targeted improvements in supporting low-income and special education students make it a school to watch for families in the Weatherford area.

Open Quote I feel so bad that I couldn't get my kids into Austin Elementary after having them at Ikard for two years. IkardiIkard Elementary is the slum school of the city. The teachers are great, but the administrators make it very clear that they do not care about student or parent issues. Yes, that includes the Principal and Vice Principal. My kids will most definitely hate school before this year is over. Close Quote

Open Quote The teachers need to get off their butts and start teaching and when a parent has a concern and asks for help with it from the school they need to stop ingoring us. We asked for help to many times this year alone and NO ONE at the school is addressing it. Very POOR school and staff. Close Quote
