Summary

Hillcrest Pds Magnet is an elementary school serving grades PK-5 in Waco, Texas, with 433 students enrolled. As part of the Waco Independent School District, which is ranked 896 out of 961 districts in the state, Hillcrest Pds Magnet consistently outperforms the district and the state of Texas in STAAR test scores, particularly in Reading. The school's academic performance is a standout, with 51.56% of 3rd graders proficient or better in STAAR Reading, compared to 30.28% for the district and 52.02% for the state.

Hillcrest Pds Magnet's student population is diverse, and the school's performance varies across different student groups. White students at the school perform exceptionally well, ranking in the top 5% of Texas elementary schools for this subgroup. However, African American and Hispanic students, as well as English Language Learners and Special Education students, lag behind the state average, suggesting the school may need to focus more on addressing the needs of its most vulnerable populations. The school's high percentage of economically disadvantaged students, ranging from 66.59% to 70.39% in recent years, also indicates that the Waco Independent School District as a whole may need to invest more resources and support in its high-poverty schools.

Interestingly, Lake Air Montessori School, another magnet school in the district, consistently outperforms Hillcrest Pds Magnet across multiple grade levels and subjects, suggesting that the magnet school model may be a key factor in academic success. Additionally, Hillcrest Pds Magnet outperforms most of the nearby schools in the Waco Independent School District, which generally have lower academic performance and higher percentages of economically disadvantaged students.

Open Quote Hillcrest PDS is an amazing school! The teachers are caring and knowledgeable. The principal, Ms. Randazzo is a great administrator who really listens to teachers, staff, parents and the kids. There's no better place in the Waco area. Nothing in Hewitt, Woodway, Robinson, or any other area school is even close to what Hillcrest offers. Close Quote
