Summary

Tomball Memorial High School is a large, high-performing public high school in Tomball, TX, serving 3,213 students in grades 9-12 and part of the highly-ranked Tomball Independent School District (Isd). This school consistently earns top marks, ranking in the 94th percentile statewide and outperforming many nearby schools like Klein High School and Cy-Fair High School in nearly every academic category. With a graduation rate of 98.9%—the highest among comparable large high schools in the area—and a dropout rate of just 0.1%, the school demonstrates a strong commitment to keeping students on track.

Academically, Tomball Memorial excels across the board, with test scores in Biology, English II, and U.S. History significantly above state averages and often leading its peers. For example, 90.31% of students were proficient in Biology, compared to 80.18% at Klein High and 81.95% at Cy-Fair High. The school also earns 5-star ratings for its effectiveness with diverse student groups, including Special Education and Multi-racial students. However, there is one notable exception: Algebra I scores (77.16%) trail the district average (80.58%), suggesting a potential area for targeted support. Additionally, while the school is a top performer, it is not the highest in its own district—the nearby Tomball Star Academy ranks 7th in the state, which may pull some high-achieving students away.

Financially, Tomball Memorial is remarkably efficient, spending just $8,629 per student—less than comparable schools like Cypress Woods High School ($9,292) and far less than lower-performing schools like Cy-Fair ($10,020). This lean operational model, with a student-teacher ratio of 18:1, still delivers top-tier results. While the school’s overall performance is stellar, there has been a slight dip in ratings for Gifted and Talented and Low Socio-Economic Status students in the most recent year, dropping to 4-star ratings. This is worth monitoring, but it does not diminish the school’s reputation as a standout choice for families seeking a high-quality, cost-effective education in the Tomball area.

Open Quote I am not impressed with this school. The teachers and staff are very rude and disrespectful. We are selling our house to move out of this district. I have always been so impressed with this school district until we got to Tomball Memorial High. It is a big disappointment. They really need to make some staffing changes. My child attends this school, and since the beginning of the year, I have had teachers cursing at my child and telling my child things that are very de-grading. I am disappointed. Close Quote
