Summary

Spring Forest Middle is a mid-sized middle school in Houston, TX, serving 993 students in grades 6-8 within the Spring Branch Independent School District (Isd), a district rated with 4 stars. The school sits in the Memorial area and has a consistent, modest performance history, currently ranking at the 62nd percentile statewide (3 stars) for the 2025-2026 school year. With just over half of its students qualifying for free or reduced lunch, Spring Forest serves a diverse population and maintains a stable environment, evidenced by an exceptionally low dropout rate of 0.1%.

Spring Forest stands out as the "middle child" of its district, outperformed by top-tier schools like Memorial Middle (5 stars) and Spring Branch Middle (4 stars), but dramatically outperforming struggling nearby schools like Spring Oaks Middle and Spring Woods Middle (both 1 star). Its most impressive academic metric is in advanced mathematics: an outstanding 80.82% of students taking the Algebra I End-of-Course exam were proficient, far exceeding the district average of 65.94% and the state average of 54.03%. However, this success contrasts sharply with a persistent weakness in 7th-grade math, where proficiency rates have consistently hovered around 13%, well below district and state averages.

The school shows a clear split in its effectiveness with different student groups, performing exceptionally well with White and Gifted and Talented students, but struggling significantly with Asian students and those from low socio-economic backgrounds. This "tale of two demographics" suggests that while the school has a "high ceiling" for its top math students, the general math curriculum may not be effectively preparing the broader student population. Interestingly, per-student spending at Spring Forest ($10,349) is higher than at top-performing Memorial Middle ($8,971) but lower than at struggling Spring Oaks Middle ($13,413), reinforcing that financial resources alone do not determine outcomes. For parents, Spring Forest offers a stable, diverse environment with strong advanced math programs, but families should be aware of the challenges in 7th-grade math and the varying support for different student subgroups.

Open Quote My son has been non stopped bullied since the day he started at this school. The principle and faculty do nothing to protect there students. My son has been assaulted 6 times in the last 5 months and the most the school has done is give the other students in school suspension. I have complained multiple times and have missed work tons of times because of my child being bullied. I have recommended activities and programs the school can do to send a anti bullying message in which go ignored! WOREST SCHOOL EVER Close Quote
