Summary

Sgt Jose F Carrasco Elementary is a large elementary school in El Paso, TX, serving 1,067 students in grades PK through 5 within the Socorro Independent School District (Isd), and it stands out as a rising star with a strong upward trajectory, currently ranking in the 75th percentile statewide.

This school truly shines in its ability to support students from economically diverse backgrounds. It ranks in the top 13% of all Texas schools for effectiveness with low socio-economic status students, a remarkable achievement that sets it apart from many nearby schools. Your child will benefit from a strong foundation in the early grades, with 3rd and 4th graders consistently scoring above state and district averages in reading and math. This momentum carries into 5th grade, where students outperform their peers at nearby schools like James P Butler Elementary and the district overall. While the school is on a powerful upward climb, it's worth noting that its highest-achieving students may need additional enrichment, as performance with gifted and talented students has dipped recently. Also, 5th-grade science scores are below the state average, though this is a challenge shared by every nearby school, including top performers like Sgt Roberto Ituarte and Cactus Trails, suggesting a district-wide focus area.

Compared to its neighbors, Carrasco offers a unique blend of strong, consistent growth and a dedicated focus on supporting all learners. While Cactus Trails and Sgt Roberto Ituarte achieve higher overall test scores, Carrasco’s remarkable progress from a pandemic-era low to its current standing shows a school with effective leadership and a clear, upward path. In contrast, Purple Heart Elementary and Paso Del Norte Fine Arts Academy have seen their rankings decline over the same period. For parents seeking a school that is not only performing well but is also demonstrably improving and excelling with a diverse student body, Carrasco is a compelling choice.

Open Quote The administration at this school is awful. Terribly unorganized and a serious lack of communication. They have left a lot of families scrambling and without information on the overflow issue. No one knew their child wasn’t on a class roster until 5 pm 2 days before school started. All phone calls and emails left unreturned. Many kids are missing the first day of school just waiting for answers.
Zero accountability or apologies.
It’s ridiculous and unacceptable! Their front office staff is rude as well! Close Quote
