Summary

Northlake Elementary is a mid-sized elementary school (PK-5) in the Lake Highlands area of Dallas, TX, serving 414 students as part of the Richardson Independent School District (Isd).

Northlake Elementary presents a unique picture for parents. Overall, the school ranks in the 50th percentile statewide, earning a 3-star rating, which places it in a "typical" performance zone. However, this average ranking masks a significant internal story: the school is exceptionally effective for its White students, ranking in the 99th percentile, while simultaneously struggling to serve its economically disadvantaged students, who rank in the 7th percentile. This stark 92-percentile-point gap is the school's most defining characteristic. The school is also an outlier in its immediate neighborhood, surrounded by high-performing schools like White Rock Elementary (94th percentile) and Lake Highlands Elementary (97th percentile), making its 50th percentile ranking a clear contrast. Interestingly, Wallace Elementary, located less than a mile away, has a similar percentage of students from low-income families but consistently outperforms Northlake in most subjects, suggesting that the school's challenges are not solely demographic.

There are a few bright spots and signs of change. The school has shown recent improvement for its Special Education students, jumping from the 24th to the 57th percentile, which could offer a model for addressing other challenges. Additionally, the school's demographic profile is shifting, with the percentage of economically disadvantaged students dropping from 72% to 62% in recent years, and its overall rank has slightly improved during this period. For parents, the key takeaway is that Northlake is a school at a crossroads: it has proven it can achieve top-tier results for some students, but its future success hinges on replicating that success for all its students, particularly those from low-income backgrounds.

Open Quote This school is wonderful! We bought our home in the neighborhood last summer and were excited to send our son to Northlake. He started Kindergarten this year and has had a wonderful experience. The new principal at this school has turned it around and the staff and teachers are amazing! Close Quote

Open Quote Very disappointed in this school. Our student's teacher is overwhelmed and unable to spend time teaching as she is constantly dealing with the unruly students. The learning expectations are very low. Parent involvement is non-existent unless you want to work with a very disorganized PTA. Horrible experience here! I agree with the previous post: DO NOT SEND YOUR CHILD HERE!! (unless you are looking for a daycare and not a learning establishment!) Close Quote

Open Quote The "leadership" at Northlake Elementary is weak. There are no school-wide paramenters governing student expectations, nor are there any systems in place to encourage over-all success of students' behaviors. Teachers appear overwhelmed and under-supported. I work here, and I hate that I got myself involved in this situation. Don't send your children here. Close Quote
