Summary

Mike And Janie Reeves Elementary is a high-performing PK-5 school in McKinney, TX, serving 794 students as part of the top-ranked Prosper Independent School District (Isd), which sits in the 96th percentile statewide.

This school stands out for its exceptional support of English Language Learners (ELL), ranking in the 91st percentile for this group—a remarkable achievement that shows effective, targeted instruction. Reeves Elementary also consistently outperforms its own district averages, especially in 3rd and 4th grade reading and all math grades, and it posted a standout 62% proficiency rate in 5th grade science, more than double the state average. However, the school shows a slight dip in 4th grade math compared to its other grades, and performance varies for different student groups: while female students and Gifted & Talented students thrive, the school is still working to improve outcomes for Multi-racial and White students. A key differentiator is its location: Reeves is physically in McKinney but belongs to Prosper ISD, giving it a structural advantage over nearby McKinney Independent School District (Isd) schools like Glen Oaks Elementary and C T Eddins Elementary, which are solid but operate in a district ranked in the 68th percentile. The contrast is even starker with Jose De Jesus And Maria Luisa Vega Elementary, just 2.7 miles away, which faces significant challenges with higher poverty rates and much lower test scores.

Overall, Reeves Elementary is a top-tier choice for families seeking a school with strong academics, a healthy 15:1 student-to-teacher ratio, and a low free/reduced lunch rate of around 10-13%. Its consistent ranking in the top 10-12% of Texas elementary schools, combined with its unique ELL strengths and science excellence, makes it a standout in the area. While its state ranking has seen a minor fluctuation in recent years, it remains a leader within Prosper ISD and a compelling option for parents prioritizing high achievement and a supportive learning environment.

Open Quote The worst run pick/dropoff in the district. Completely inept leadership. There was also an event where they lost a child for 45 min. A disaster of a school. Close Quote

Open Quote The ladies at the front office were very rude towards me I’m new to the area wanted more information about the school since the reviews are hidden and also needed to know what all I needed to do to get my kiddos registered! Both ladies looked at me with a very bad face like I didn’t belong there and I don’t appreciate it at all! And have me little to no information! This makes me not even want to register my kid Close Quote
