Summary

J B Wilmeth Elementary is a K-5 school in McKinney, TX, serving 436 students as part of the McKinney Independent School District (Isd), and it has a long history of being a standout performer, consistently ranking in the top 10-15% of Texas elementary schools over the past decade.

This school truly shines in its ability to support a diverse range of students. It is a top-tier performer for its Hispanic students, ranking in the 91st percentile, and also excels with female students and those receiving special education services. In core academics, Wilmeth's proficiency rates in Reading and Math are 15 to 22 percentage points higher than the district average and 20 to 25 points higher than the state average. While it faces strong competition from nearby Earl & Lottie Wolford Elementary (94th percentile), Wilmeth holds its own against schools from the more highly-ranked Prosper Independent School District (Isd) and Frisco Independent School District (Isd), outranking Jim And Betty Hughes Elementary, Jack And June Furr Elementary, and Sonntag Elementary.

However, the school has two key areas of concern. Its performance with students from low socio-economic backgrounds has dropped dramatically to the 25th percentile, and its Gifted and Talented program has seen a puzzling decline to the 28th percentile. While Wilmeth remains a strong choice, it is facing increased competition from peers like Wolford and must address these internal challenges to return to its former top-10% status.

Open Quote My son is currently in 5th Grade and has been proud to call himself a Wilmeth student since Kindergarten. I can't say enough about how wonderful this school is, as well as the McKinney ISD as a whole. My son is continuing to thrive at Wilmeth and we wouldn't have him going to school anywhere else. The faculty is incredible, so caring, nurturing and compassionate. Easy to communicate with, solid curriculum as well as plenty of extra curricular activities. Kudos and a huge thank you to everyone. Keep up the GREAT work!!! Close Quote
