Summary

Prairie View Elementary in Rhome, TX, serves 720 students in grades PK-5 and is part of the highly-rated Northwest Independent School District (Isd), though the school itself has faced significant academic challenges in recent years.

Prairie View Elementary currently ranks in the 14th percentile statewide, a stark contrast to nearby district peers like Haslet Elementary (78th percentile) and Carl E Schluter Elementary (76th percentile). Test score gaps are substantial—for example, only 44.1% of Prairie View 5th graders are proficient in reading compared to 71.6% at Haslet, and 4th grade math proficiency sits at 27.0% versus 51.0% at W R Hatfield Elementary. The school has experienced a decade-long decline from a 57th percentile ranking in 2016, with post-pandemic recovery proving especially difficult. Notably, Prairie View has a lower student-to-teacher ratio (12.6:1) and higher per-student spending ($11,757) than many of its higher-performing peers, suggesting that resource allocation and instructional strategies—not funding or class size—are key areas needing attention.

While the school's Gifted and Talented program shows some promise (39th percentile), most student groups are performing in the bottom 10-15% of the state, indicating systemic challenges in the core instructional model. The school serves a community where 61.4% of students are economically disadvantaged, more than double the rate at nearby high-performing schools. For parents considering Prairie View, it's important to understand that while the district overall is strong, this school faces unique hurdles that require focused support and intervention to improve outcomes for its students.

Open Quote As a parent I feel there is soooooo much lacking from Prairie View. The teachers yell at their students, and berate them in front of fellow classmates. When you bring this to the principles attention he makes you feel like your wasting his time and that you are a big joke. He also give you the impression that it is probably you child not the teacher that is the problem. As a parent I work hard with my child in there studies and social behavior. I realize that they are young and are still lacking these skills but the teachers dont seem to understand this. They are either burnt out or to new or just are not ment to be teachers. I feel I get no where with this school. Im a stay at home mother and put a lot of time and money into this school for the benifit of my child and feel that even this is not enough. Its like Im back in high school again. You are either in or your out when it comes to this school and the sad thing is you never know where you stand unless you are 24/7 brown nosing the principle and staff. If I could I would rip my kid out asap and put them in private school like westlake academy. good luck to those who have to send your kids to this school....maybe you will be one of the lucky ones.
