Summary

Stahl Elementary in San Antonio, TX, is a mid-sized school serving 644 students in grades PK-5 within the North East Independent School District (Isd), where nearly 70% of students qualify for free or reduced lunch. While the school has shown some recent improvement, climbing from the 18th percentile in 2019 to the 43rd percentile in 2025-2026, it still lags behind the district average and many nearby schools. For example, Redland Oaks Elementary (2.8 miles away) and Steubing Ranch Elementary (0.86 miles away) consistently outperform both the district and state in core subjects like Reading and Math.

A key concern is a significant "math gap" in early grades: only 32.4% of 3rd graders and 28.6% of 4th graders were proficient in math in 2025-2026, roughly 15-20 points below the district average. However, there is a notable bright spot in 5th-grade math, where 62.3% of students were proficient—beating the district (52%) and state (47.4%) averages, and even competing with high-performing neighbors like Redland Oaks Elementary (61.8%). This multi-year trend suggests effective instruction or interventions in that grade. Additionally, Stahl ranks in the 69th percentile statewide for serving English Language Learners and the 78th percentile for Gifted and Talented students, indicating strong targeted programs.

Interestingly, Stahl's performance is volatile, with a dip from the 48th percentile in 2024-2025 to the 43rd in 2025-2026, suggesting the school is still seeking a stable path to improvement. The school's poverty rate (69.3%) is notably higher than nearby Longs Creek Elementary (47.3%), just 0.77 miles away, which ranks in the 82nd percentile statewide. This proximity highlights how neighborhood demographics can shape different educational environments within the same district. Spanish-language STAAR testing shows mixed results, with strengths in 5th-grade Reading Spanish (58.3% proficient vs. 34.8% state) but weaker math scores, indicating the bilingual program is not uniformly effective across subjects.

Open Quote Stahl Elementary was amazing! I loved going to school, well of course not every kid loves school. The teachers there are great! I love all of them & I still visit them whenever I can. I know I will never forget that school. I was there for 2nd through 5th grade, now my sister goes there & she loves it just as much as I did. Close Quote
