Summary

Faubion Middle in McKinney, TX, serves 1,033 students in grades 6-8 within the McKinney Independent School District (Isd), and is a strong, reliable school that consistently earns a 4-star rating and ranks in the top 20% of Texas middle schools.

Faubion stands out for its exceptional performance in advanced math, with 100% of its Algebra I End-of-Course test-takers scoring proficient—a perfect score that dramatically outperforms the district (63.24%) and state (47.01%). This makes it a powerhouse for students ready for accelerated coursework. The school also excels in serving its Special Education population, ranking in the 89th percentile, and provides a top-tier experience for its highest-achieving students, with Gifted and Talented students ranking in the 91st percentile. While Faubion is a solid performer, it operates in a competitive environment. Nearby schools like Dowell Middle and Dr Jack Cockrill Middle rank higher (87th-94th percentile) but serve a less economically diverse population. Faubion achieves its strong results while serving a student body where 43.76% qualify for free or reduced lunch, making it a high-equity school that adds significant value for its students.

One area for potential improvement is reading proficiency, which has shown a slight downward trend and now falls below the district average in most grades. For example, 8th-grade reading proficiency was 61.84% compared to the district's 68.44%. Overall, Faubion is a reliable, high-performing choice within McKinney ISD, particularly for families seeking a school with a strong advanced math program and a track record of supporting diverse learners. It may not have the top raw scores of more affluent neighbors in Frisco or Allen, but it provides a robust and effective education for a wide range of students.

Open Quote I thought this school was good to my daughter but let me warn you about one program that isn't there. Tha3ts the orchestra. My daughter just went to high school an she doesn't want to play anymore because of their teacher. Shes beyond harsh, she over pushes her kids, my daughter expressed other people dropping orchestra even before her. My daughter is not just good shes great. Shes all honor student who had a passion for playing and the ochestra teacher destoyed it. Not to mention when she told my daughter she made honors ochestra after she tried out, had her sign a contract, and then next year told she didn't make it. My daughter's anxiety because of her whole experience with this teacher for two years caused her so much doubt, anxiety, and burn out. I don't know if I'll even be able to get her to play again. Her outside intructors who worked with her for years outside of school felt so bad and were infuriated this happened to her. Watch your kids mental health with this ochestra teacher. Close Quote
