Summary

Wolffarth Elementary is a public elementary school in Lubbock, Texas, serving 299 students in grades PK-5 and part of the Lubbock Independent School District. The school's performance has been inconsistent, with periods of relatively strong performance followed by periods of weaker performance, as indicated by its fluctuating statewide ranking from 1,324 out of 4,581 Texas elementary schools in 2021-2022 to 3,349 out of 4,651 in 2024-2025.

Wolffarth Elementary has a high percentage of students from low socioeconomic backgrounds, with 90.97% of students qualifying for free or reduced-price lunch in the 2023-2024 school year. However, the school's Hispanic students have consistently outperformed their peers statewide, ranking in the top 25% of Texas elementary schools for this subgroup in recent years. In contrast, the school's special education students have struggled, ranking in the bottom 25% of Texas elementary schools for this subgroup.

Despite the school's relatively high per-student spending and low student-teacher ratio, its academic performance has been inconsistent, suggesting that factors beyond just funding and staffing may be at play. To improve the school's performance, the district and school leadership should consider analyzing the factors contributing to the strong performance of the school's Hispanic students, investigating the reasons behind the low performance of the special education students, and collaborating with nearby high-performing schools, such as Wilson Elementary and Ramirez Elementary, to identify and implement best practices.

Open Quote Don't get me wrong glad we have the school at its location. I just simply believe our children deserve better attention. I've been in there bathrooms and there was no hand soap most of last year. Also I had a big issue with my child coming home with lice... I'd buy her the box of lice medicine and within two weeks I had to buy her another. This went on for about half of the end of school year. All summer we didn't have any lice in her hair at all and thank goodness this year we haven't had them come back yet. Please help our children have the same treatment to these issues and more as other schools on the other side of town do. I appreciate your attention.
