Summary

Jim Plain Elementary is a public elementary school located in Leander, Texas, serving grades PK-5 with a student population of 859. It is part of the Leander Independent School District (ISD), which is ranked 199 out of 961 school districts in Texas and has a 4-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Jim Plain Elementary has seen fluctuating performance on STAAR tests over the years, with its ranking among Texas elementary schools ranging from 1350 to 2582. Compared to the Leander ISD and Texas state averages, the school generally performs below in reading, math, and science proficiency levels, with particularly low performance in mathematics. The school's proficiency rates in math range from 29.84% to 48.65% in 2024-2025, compared to the district's 51.16% to 52.53% and the state's 44.88% to 46.24%. Jim Plain Elementary also has a higher percentage of free and reduced-lunch recipients (25.96% in 2023-2024) and English Language Learner (ELL) students compared to nearby Tarvin Elementary and Whitestone Elementary, which consistently outperform Jim Plain on STAAR tests.

Despite the higher per-student spending of $10,378 at Jim Plain Elementary in the 2020-2021 school year, compared to the nearby Leander ISD schools ranging from $8,610 to $9,935 per student, the school's academic performance is still lagging behind. This suggests that simply increasing funding may not be the sole solution, and the school may need to examine how resources are being utilized and allocated to support student learning. Addressing the unique needs of the school's student population, including the higher percentage of free and reduced-lunch recipients and ELL students, could be crucial for improving overall performance.

Open Quote This school is definitely unorganized, PTA is a joke and their events have zero volunteers. My son's teacher didn't even send an introductory phone call or email when he started school. Knew nothing about water bottle, snack schedule, work loads or about the teacher in general until we attended open house (2 weeks after school started). Teachers will take days to email parents back, students never do projects or fun activities, its all copied worksheets. When teachers are out instead of getting sub's the school splits the class up and gives them to other teachers. Yes, they go into another classroom and sit in the back. Horrible horrible school. My son is "excelling" when he was struggling at his last school. He is now one of the top ones in his class, his teacher gives no homework or communicates on nothing he can work on. School is just a joke Close Quote
