Summary

Lake Dallas Elementary is a PK-5 school in Lake Dallas, TX, serving 500 students within the Lake Dallas Independent School District (Isd). The school has experienced a notable decline in academic performance over the past decade, now ranking in the 30th percentile statewide—its lowest point—and earning a 1-star rating. This places it as the lowest-ranked school among its direct competitors within a 4-mile radius, including Hawk Elementary (85th percentile) and Heritage Elementary (87th percentile), both in neighboring districts.

A critical weakness is mathematics proficiency, which is consistently below state averages across all grade levels. For example, 5th-grade math proficiency is 31.71%, compared to the state average of 47.38%, while nearby McAuliffe Elementary (in Lewisville Independent School District (Isd)) achieves 69.67%. The school also struggles to support economically disadvantaged students, ranking in the 11th percentile for this subgroup. However, there is a bright spot: 5th-grade reading proficiency (59.76%) exceeds the state average (58.47%), suggesting effective instruction or interventions at that grade level. Per-student spending ($10,108) is comparable to higher-performing peers, indicating resource allocation and instructional strategies need attention.

Significant gaps exist in student outcomes, with male students ranking in the 22nd percentile and female students in the 37th percentile. Performance for Special Education and English Language Learner students remains in the bottom quartile. While the school faces challenges, its district peers Shady Shores Elementary and Corinth Elementary rank significantly higher (60th and 61st percentiles), showing that improvement is possible within the same district. The school’s leadership must urgently address systemic math issues and strengthen support for all student groups to reverse its downward trajectory.

Open Quote My experience with this district left me with serious concerns about student safety, accountability, and transparency. As a child, concerns were raised about a school employee who had access to students. My family reported those concerns and submitted a written request regarding this employee, but we did not feel that our concerns were taken seriously. Years later, after learning that numerous former students from multiple states had come forward with similar allegations involving the same individual, I began seeking answers about how complaints were handled. I submitted public records requests asking for investigative records, disciplinary records, and internal communications related to this employee. The district informed me that no such records existed. I was also told that the district's email servers had been decommissioned in 2021. When I requested documentation regarding the decommissioning and destruction of those records, I was informed that no certificates of destruction, retention logs, vendor records, chain-of-custody documentation, or similar records could be located. As someone seeking answers, I found this extremely troubling. The absence of records made it impossible to determine how concerns were addressed, what discussions may have taken place, or whether proper procedures were followed. Parents trust schools to protect children and to maintain transparency when concerns are raised. When records that could help explain past decisions are unavailable, it undermines public confidence and makes accountability difficult. My hope is that future families never have to spend years searching for answers only to be told that the records no longer exist. Every child deserves a safe learning environment, and every parent deserves confidence that concerns will be taken seriously and preserved appropriately. Close Quote
