Summary

West Lake Middle in Humble, TX, is a large school serving 1,486 students in grades 6-8 within the Humble Independent School District (Isd), and it has recently earned a 4-star rating by jumping from the 50th to the 78th percentile statewide.

This school stands out for its exceptional performance in advanced math, with an impressive 94.81% of students proficient in Algebra I—far exceeding the district average of 62.89% and on par with top peers like Creekwood Middle (98.25%) and Kingwood Middle (97.73%). West Lake also shows remarkable consistency in reading, with proficiency rates climbing from 63% in 6th grade to 71.95% in 8th grade, outperforming both district and state averages at every level. Additionally, the school has made dramatic gains in supporting all students, with historically underserved groups seeing huge improvements—for example, students from low socio-economic backgrounds jumped from the 22nd to the 68th percentile in just a few years. This rapid progress is not seen at nearby schools like Autumn Ridge Middle or Humble Middle.

Despite these strengths, West Lake faces challenges in 7th-grade math, where proficiency has hovered around 14-18%—well below the state average of 29.41%—and in 8th-grade social studies, where only 29.68% of students are proficient. Interestingly, the school spends the least per student ($8,381) among its peers, compared to $11,931 at Ross Sterling Middle, yet achieves strong overall results, suggesting efficient use of resources. With a very low dropout rate of 0.1%, West Lake is a school on a strong upward trajectory, offering a solid foundation for families seeking a high-performing, efficient middle school option.

Open Quote Westlake Middle School in Humble, Texas is the worst administration I've ever encountered! No wonder they are at the bottom of the list as far as academics and statistics government ratings. The staff at this ISD is horrible from the head principal straight up and down to whomever at that entry window when you enter the building. They need to start all over and hire all new staff. And can somebody tell them to at least smile or at least fake it. They don't even recognize the students by greeting them in a friendly way. No one smiles and they walk around as if a stick is stuck far up their behinds! I guess everyone wakes up on the wrong side of the bed everyday! This certainly is not my type of environment. If I would had known this school was this pitiful I never would had picked to reside in this area. Humble ISD I guess you will never be at the top at least not in my books.
And what is up with trying to get your child in the school. It took forever to get my child in that funky school with the crazy different policies they have. It is not all that at all.
Westlake Middle School, look in the mirror and fix yourself and your cult of a staff because You Suck!!!
