Summary

Kingwood Middle in Kingwood, TX, serves 973 students in grades 6-8 and is part of the Humble Independent School District (Isd), a district ranked in the top 35% of Texas. After a period of decline, the school has made a strong recovery, climbing back to the 66th percentile statewide and earning a 3-star rating, with notable improvements across nearly all student groups.

The school’s standout strength is its exceptional Algebra I program, where nearly 98% of students taking the End-of-Course exam were proficient—far exceeding the district average of 63% and the state average of 54%. This performance rivals top nearby schools like Riverwood Middle and Creekwood Middle. However, this success contrasts with struggles in on-grade-level math, where only 19% of 7th graders were proficient, well below the state average. The school also excels in 8th Grade Social Studies, with 44% of students proficient, outperforming the district (35%) and state (32%) averages, and surpassing most nearby schools in New Caney Independent School District (Isd).

Kingwood Middle serves a more economically diverse population than its immediate neighbors, with about 49% of students qualifying for free or reduced lunch, compared to 14% at Riverwood and 23% at Creekwood. Despite this, the school has shown remarkable progress, including a dramatic improvement for African American students, who jumped from the 32nd percentile to the 74th percentile. The school also maintains a consistently low dropout rate (0.3% or less), significantly better than the district average, reflecting a strong culture of student support. This combination of advanced academic opportunities and targeted improvements makes Kingwood Middle a compelling choice for families seeking a school that is actively rising to meet diverse student needs.

Open Quote I had two daughters attend this school and couldn't have been more pleased. If there was a problem, the administrators were there to listen and act immediately. I knew them all by name and they knew me, as well as all of the other parents. I ate with the kids at school, and they were the greatest bunch of kids. They were taught positive things by the school and administrators and everything was common sense. For example, if a child wore pants with a hole in them at another school, they would be sent home, missing class time. Here, they are sent to the office, duct tape is applied, and they go back to class. Problem solved! The kids are allowed to be individuals and express themselves. The staff is wonderful and supportive. I loved this school. Best experience ever. Close Quote
