Summary

Kingwood High School is a large, high-performing public high school in Kingwood, TX, serving 2,877 students in grades 9-12 as part of the Humble Independent School District (Isd). This school consistently ranks in the top 10% of Texas high schools, earning a 5-star rating for the 2025-2026 school year, and stands out as the highest-ranked traditional high school in the district.

Kingwood excels in nearly every academic area, with STAAR test scores far exceeding state averages and those of nearby schools. For example, 91.7% of students are proficient in Biology, compared to 77.4% at Atascocita High School and 86.1% at Kingwood Park High School. The school also boasts a very high graduation rate of 96.8% and an extremely low dropout rate of 0.7%. However, there is one notable exception: Algebra I proficiency has been below the state average for several years, a unique challenge for an otherwise stellar school. Kingwood also serves its diverse student body exceptionally well, with Hispanic students ranking in the 91st percentile statewide and students from low-income backgrounds showing strong and improving performance.

Compared to its neighbors, Kingwood serves a more affluent population, with only about 17% of students qualifying for free or reduced lunch, versus 33% at nearby Kingwood Park and 76% at Humble High School. Interestingly, Kingwood achieves these top results while spending less per student ($8,987) than many of its peers, suggesting efficient use of resources. While specialized schools like Guy M Sconzo Early College High School and Infinity Early College High School rank slightly higher, Kingwood’s consistent, high-level performance across a large and diverse student body makes it a top choice for families in the area.

Open Quote This school has a comprehensive program for students of all needs, with emphasis on college-readiness. This school as well as, Kingwood Park H.S., are excellent choices for families new to the area. The Humble School District as I understand it, is in the top 3rd of all districts in the state. Parental involvement makes a difference here. The teachers I have noticed are generally happy to be teaching there too. Kingwood is a community that is dedicated to supporting its kids' goals and education, very family friendly. I thought my kids, now graduated, did quite well at Kingwood. Although they had their shares of struggles, overall I would say Kingwood's supportive environment and their own determination put together, helped them to be sucessful in college. Close Quote
