Summary

Bear Creek Elementary in Euless, TX, serves 524 students from Pre-K through 5th grade and is part of the highly-regarded Grapevine-Colleyville Independent School District (Isd), though it currently holds a 2-star rating (39th percentile) after a decade-long decline from a 4-star rating.

The most critical concern for parents is the school's severe underperformance in mathematics. In 3rd grade, only 27% of students are proficient in math, compared to the district average of 58%, while 5th grade math proficiency sits at 36% versus the district's 62%. This is a stark contrast to nearby GCISD schools like Heritage Elementary and Taylor Elementary, both 5-star schools with math proficiency rates above 87%. Even schools in the neighboring Hurst-Euless-Bedford Independent School District (Isd), such as Meadow Creek Elementary (86th percentile) and Spring Garden Elementary (75th percentile), outperform Bear Creek despite having similar or higher rates of economic disadvantage. Science scores are also a chronic weakness, with only 18% of 5th graders proficient in 2024-2025, well below the district average of 38%.

Another red flag is the decline in performance for Gifted and Talented (GT) students, who dropped from the 62nd percentile to the 35th percentile in just two years, suggesting the school may struggle to challenge its highest-ability learners. Additionally, students from low socioeconomic backgrounds rank in the 21st percentile, down from the 44th percentile two years prior, indicating the school is not effectively closing the achievement gap. With a favorable student-teacher ratio of 13.9:1 and per-student spending of $10,029, Bear Creek has resources that are competitive with its peers, but its specific attendance zone faces unique challenges that have led to a sustained downward trend, making it an island of underperformance in a sea of high-achieving schools.

Open Quote School principal and teachers are very accessible and PTA does many school spirit activities which makes it feel like family. My daughters love going to Bear Creek and I love that they're able to be friends with children from other cultures. Most of all, I see progress in their learning and self-esteem. Close Quote

Open Quote Drive when school is let out and listen to the teachers on the megaphones. That will give you an idea of how they talk to kids at this school. I don't think anyone has ever seen the principle smile. Close Quote
