Open Quote My second-grader is not challenged in any way at Grand Saline Elementary. He has a strong desire to learn and a wonderful curiosity about most every subject, but has already become bored with this school's curriculum. For example, after home-schooling for six months, he was capable of simple multiplication; his last math worksheet at the END of his second grade year had 3+1 as a math problem - this is no growth and little progress.
On my visit to the school several times, I found the teachers to be short-tempered (first and second grade), and generally unfriendly to their young students. When asked a question by a little student, a curt one or two-word answer is all the teacher could be bothered to give; no kindness expressed here. When having lunch in the cafeteria with my child, social interaction between children was not encouraged, scolding was frequent, and the atmosphere actually seemed punitive at times for very little reason.

We're looking for a school whose teachers are eager and happy to be a part of my student's life; this sour bunch is not what I want my child to think adults are like, and definitely don't want my child to lose his enthusiasm and interest in the world at this early age due to lack of interest by his teachers. About Student-Teacher Ratio
Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
