Summary

Colony Meadows Elementary in Sugar Land, TX, is a high-performing school serving 653 students in grades PK through 5 as part of the Fort Bend Independent School District (Isd), consistently earning a 5-star rating and ranking in the 97th percentile statewide.

Colony Meadows stands out for its consistent academic excellence, but it operates in a neighborhood of educational powerhouses. While it ranks 133rd out of over 4,600 Texas elementary schools, it is outperformed by nearby schools like Commonwealth Elementary (ranked 25th) and Cornerstone Elementary (ranked 63rd), both also in Fort Bend ISD, as well as Bess Campbell Elementary (ranked 52nd) from the neighboring Lamar Consolidated Independent School District. This places Colony Meadows as a strong second-tier choice in a cluster of elite schools. Notably, the school achieves its high ranking while serving a slightly higher percentage of students from low-income backgrounds (17.3% free/reduced lunch) compared to Commonwealth (11.54%) and Cornerstone (11.57%), demonstrating effective support for its diverse student body. The school is particularly effective for Hispanic students and those from low socio-economic backgrounds, with both subgroups ranking in the 96th to 98th percentiles statewide.

One area for attention is a consistent dip in 5th-grade math and science scores compared to earlier grades, with 5th-grade science proficiency at 57.69% versus reading at 83.05%. Additionally, support for special education students has shown some volatility, dropping from the 97th percentile in 2023 to the 87th in 2025. Despite these challenges, Colony Meadows remains a top-tier school, and its success is driven by factors beyond spending—it spends $9,743 per student, less than lower-performing Lakeview Elementary ($15,695) but more than higher-performing Commonwealth ($8,485). This suggests strong teaching quality, curriculum, and community involvement are key to its achievements.

Open Quote This is not a good school if you know what a good School is. The Student to teacher ratio in my son’s 1st grade classroom is 24:1 and in my daughter’s 2nd grade classroom is 21:1 so I am not sure where the 16:1 ratio is coming from. The teachers are overwhelmed and yelling at the children, I even got yelled at in the pick up lane by a teacher for not moving the car quickly enough. And then they brought the wrong children to my car and those kids had to inform the teacher that it wasn’t their car nor parent. I do not recommend this school. Close Quote
