Summary

Austin Parkway Elementary in Sugar Land, TX, is a mid-sized school serving 574 students in grades PK through 5 as part of the Fort Bend Independent School District (Isd), and it stands out as a reliable, high-quality option in a competitive area filled with top-tier schools.

While nearby schools like Commonwealth Elementary and Anne McCormick Sullivan Elementary consistently rank in the top 1% of the state, Austin Parkway offers a strong middle ground, ranking in the 80th to 84th percentile statewide. This makes it a less pressured but still excellent choice for families. The school truly shines in its support for specific student groups, earning a 5-star rating for its work with African American students and showing impressive growth with English Language Learners and Special Education students. However, a key concern is a decline in math scores, especially in 5th grade, where proficiency has dropped below the district average—a trend that sets it apart from peers like Highlands Elementary and Settlers Way Elementary, which excel in math.

With a student-to-teacher ratio of 14.6:1 and efficient spending of about $10,063 per student, Austin Parkway delivers solid results without the high costs seen at some nearby schools. It serves a more diverse community than its elite neighbors, with 33% of students qualifying for free or reduced lunch. For parents seeking a well-rounded, equitable school that balances strong academics with a supportive environment for all learners, Austin Parkway is a compelling option—though it’s worth noting the math program may need extra attention at home.

Open Quote We moved from NY state to TX this past year. We were originally zoned for Commonwealth Elementary and were diverted to Austin Parkway. Commonwealth was capped off. We could not be happier with the level of education our daughter has received. She began APE in the 4th grade. The principal Mrs. Whisonant, school counselor Mrs. Prine, assistant principal Ms. Dickey, 4th grade teachers Ms. Cervantes and Ms. Grove as well as countless other staff has been warm, approachable, accessible and most importantly delivering the highest standards of education. My child could not be happier with her new school and I as a parent could not feel anymore joyful having my daughter attend APE. APE is an environment that is welcoming, warm and very supportive to both their students and their parents.
