Summary

First Colony Middle in Sugar Land, TX, serves 1,270 students in grades 6 through 8 within the Fort Bend Independent School District (Isd), and is a consistently high-performing school that has ranked in the top 10-15% of Texas middle schools for over a decade.

This school stands out for its exceptional academic programs, particularly in advanced mathematics. In the 2024-2025 school year, 100% of students taking the Algebra I End-of-Course exam were proficient—a perfect score that far exceeds district and state averages. This near-perfect performance has been consistent for several years, indicating a highly effective program for accelerating students into advanced math. First Colony Middle also excels at supporting diverse learners: English Language Learners ranked in the 91st percentile statewide, and Special Education students also ranked in the 91st percentile in the most recent data. The school maintains an exceptionally low dropout rate of just 0.1%, well below the district average of 1.1%.

While First Colony Middle is a top-tier school, it operates in a competitive local landscape. It is outperformed by the elite Fort Settlement Middle (99th percentile) and Sartartia Middle (95-97th percentile), but significantly outranks nearby schools like Dulles Middle (72-79th percentile) and Sugar Land Middle (43-49th percentile). Notably, the school achieves these excellent results with relatively efficient spending—$8,666 per student in 2020-2021—which is less than many lower-performing schools in the area. This combination of strong academics, robust support for all students, and efficient resource use makes First Colony Middle a standout choice for families in Sugar Land.

Open Quote This is the best school ever!!! There are awesome teachers, awesome administrators, and awesome staff! There is almost no bullying at all throughout the school. Kindness, responsibility, school pride, and equality are highly valued. First Colony middle school is also very diverse.
There are also a lot of amazing extra curricular activities! These range from things like Debate club and Sign language club, to NJHS, student council, and Honors art club. Close Quote

Open Quote Administration is very dismissive of bullying and parent/student rights. Disgrace to the public Texas Educational system. Close Quote
