Houston Elementary has consistently ranked in the top 25% of Texas elementary schools over the past 10 years, with a current ranking of 1595 out of 4651 schools (2024-2025). The school's performance on STAAR tests is generally higher than the Denton ISD and Texas state averages across various subjects and grade levels, particularly in reading, where 4th and 5th-grade proficiency rates have consistently been above 60% in recent years. While Houston Elementary generally outperforms the other nearby Denton ISD elementary schools, such as Hawk Elementary, Pecan Creek Elementary, and McNair Elementary, it lags behind the higher-performing Denton Classical Academy, a public charter school, in areas like reading and math proficiency rates. The school's higher spending per student, which has increased from $8,998 in 2018-2019 to $11,215 in 2020-2021, may have contributed to its strong academic performance.

Open Quote Didnt put our son on a 504 plan because he has adhd, and is a transfer student. Failed to put him on the plan so they could kick him out due to him being a transfer student. His academic scores are excellent, 1st grade reading at 3rd grade level, already knows multiplication, division, and fractions. Just getting bored, finishing before the other students, and being disruptive. This tells me that they would prefer to kick out any mildly disruptive students if given a choice, but cannot because they aren’t transfers. We told them we were withdrawing him and they had the 504 paperwork the very same day. They should be ashamed of themselvesyou know who you are, and who we are. Close Quote
