Summary

Kaufman Elementary in Spring, TX, is a PK-4 school in the Conroe Independent School District (Isd) serving 859 students in a relatively affluent area, where only about 26% of students qualify for free or reduced lunch.

Kaufman has a strong history of high performance, but recent data shows a notable decline. While it once ranked in the top 10% of Texas elementary schools, it has dropped to the 79th percentile. This is a key difference from nearby Birnham Woods Elementary, which is on a stable upward trajectory, and Hines Elementary, which has surged to become the top performer in the area. Kaufman still excels with specific groups, ranking in the 98th percentile for Gifted and Talented students and the 90th percentile for English Language Learners. However, its performance with White students and students from low-income backgrounds has dropped significantly, falling to the 52nd and 54th percentiles respectively. The school also shows a "tale of two grades": 3rd graders outperform district and state averages, but 4th graders fall below the district average in both reading and math.

Kaufman's per-student spending ($8,868) is lower than some nearby schools with higher poverty rates, but higher than Snyder Elementary, which has a similar demographic profile and a higher overall ranking. This suggests Kaufman may need to re-evaluate how it allocates resources to support its general student population. While still a strong school, Kaufman is being outpaced by its neighbors, indicating a need for strategic focus to reverse its recent trend and reclaim its top-tier status.

Open Quote My daughter, Zoe, started school at Kaufman Elementary last year for kindergarten. She is autistic & they have been absolutely wonderful with her!!! If something didn't work for my daughter, they would try something different until something did work. I was also very worried about her starting school as a mainstream student & being made fun of because she does things that are different than the other children & also because of all of the bullying you hear about going on in schools today. I was so impressed with the way that they handled this topic. When they say there is no tolerance they mean there is no tolerance. If a child were to say something cross or make fun of her, they would nip it in the bud immediately & it never happened again. My daughter was never made to feel different & she loves going to school. All the staff & students at this school are just amazing!!! Also academically they were great & my daughter is moving into the 1st grade. Our plans to move in the next year have been put on hold & have been put on the back burner until after she moves out of this school. Close Quote
